Stewardship
Management Program

Section 1. PURPOSE OF STEWARDSHIP MANAGEMENT

Vision acknowledges that while GE derived SR201 and XL196 herbicide tolerant HT camelinas have received regulatory approvals for cultivation in the U.S., these events are documented and the Biotech Notification File for livestock feeding approval is under review at FDA CVM for approval for food and feed uses in the U.S. these HT lines currently do not have full regulatory approval for livestock feeding. Canada and LATAM do not have regulatory approvals for cultivation, or food and feed uses in countries to which U.S. camelinas are commonly exported (e.g. the European Union, Canada).

Vision acknowledges that it is very important that HT camelina cultivation and seed chain of custody is conducted in full compliance with transgenic crop food and feed regulations in the U.S., as well as full compliance with regulations of countries outside of the U.S. (ex-U.S.) that both cultivate camelinas and import camelina products from the U.S.

Therefore, the purpose of the Stewardship Management Practices is to prevent the unintentional release of genes/traits from Vision GE camelina used in Trait License Agreements between recipients and Vision (Unintentional Release, as defined in Section 2 below) AND to prevent the unintended acquisition of unknown genes/traits/events from outside sources used within Trait License Agreements (Adventitious Presence, as in Section 2).

The Stewardship Notebook is designed to record completion of the different steps involved in the Vision Stewardship Management Program and to thereby verify compliance with the Stewardship Management Program.

Section 2. DEFINITION

The unintentional and incidental commingling of any genes/traits/events in any germplasm or seed lot of Vision camelinas in which it was not intended.

a) cells, plant tissues, plants, germplasm, events, seeds or other reproductive tissues, including samples thereof, (b) polynucleotides including genomic DNA, cDNA or RNA, which samples are, or could be, produced by or obtained from cells, plant tissues, or plants, or (c) plasmid or viral expression vectors containing such polynucleotides.

A form provided by Vision to Recipient, which documents that Vision has taken appropriate action to destroy specific Biological Materials addressed in this Annex of the Trait License Agreement.

The control of viable seed or vegetative propagating material planted in the field in a manner that mitigates the spread of pollen or other propagative plant parts out of the confined field trial area.

The control of viable seed or vegetative propagating material in a manner that mitigates their release outside of their controlled environment in the laboratory, greenhouse, seed conditioning or storage facilities.

The area extending a minimum 32.75 ft. (10 m.) for field trials, 131 ft (40 m.) for seed production and 163.7 ft. (50 m.) for commercial scale seed production around the stewarded trial, to prevent the unintended release of the Vision camelina traits to Recipient’s or other camelinas, and to prevent the unintentional introduction of other traits into Vision camelina germplasm (refer to Sections 6 and 7). The distances listed above are measured from the outer edge of the stewarded trial area and include the perimeter (described below) immediately surrounding the stewarded trial area. The Isolation Area must not contain any cultivated camelina varieties or any plants that are sexually compatible with Camelina sativa1 , but may contain other vegetation or crop species. The Isolation Area must be monitored for the presence of cultivated camelina, or any plants that are sexually compatible with Camelina sativa. The monitoring must occur at least once every 15 days from the time of planting but must include key moments during the period in which any seed or plants from the Trait License Agreement are present in the Trial/Planting site. These key moments include at least i) prior to/at planting, ii) before and during flowering, iii) before harvest. Additional monitoring may be requested by VISION. In the event there is a requirement to vary the size of the Isolation Zone this will only be amended with written consent from VISION.

1 Sexually compatible relatives include: Camelina sativa ssp. sativa; C. microcarpa; C. alyssum, and C. rumelica, including C. rumelica ssp. rum elica; potentially sexually compatible weed species including Capsella bursa-pastoris (shepherd’s purse), Arabidopsis lyrata (lyrate rockcress) A. thaliana (mouse-ear cress), Neslia paniculata (ball mustard) and Arabis glabra (tower rockcress).

Any Recipient development program whose purpose is NOT the development of Vision HT camelina within the Trait License and/or Testing and/or Production Agreement. Perimeter: A 10 ft. (3 m) fallow or managed, non-camelina vegetation (morphologically distinct from camelina) zone immediately surrounding the stewarded trial area. The perimeter is designed to allow equipment turnaround outside of the trial area

A 10 ft. (3 m) fallow or managed, non-camelina vegetation (morphologically distinct from camelina) zone immediately surrounding the stewarded trial area. The perimeter is designed to allow equipment turnaround outside of the trial area

Any field planting of GE Germplasm, including small-plot field trials, seed increases, demonstration blocks or planting of this material for other purposes.

The Trait License and or Services Agreement between Vision and Recipient for the purpose of cultivating GE herbicide tolerant camelina including introgressing the Vision GE herbicide tolerance camelina traits in to Vision elite camelina germplasm.

The planting material used within the Trait License and Services Agreement Program, including varieties, seeds, and plants that may or may not contain Vision camelina traits.

The program defined in the Trait License Agreement that describes the scope of transfer of Vision camelina traits to Recipient for the purpose of cultivating licensed GE herbicide tolerant camelina and introgression of the Vision GE herbicide tolerance camelina traits in to Recipient’s elite camelina germplasm.

A notebook supplied by Vision that contains all forms needed to be completed by Vision to demonstrate compliance with the Stewardship Program.

The program described through the notebook.

The distribution of Vision camelinas outside their intended destination for growing, shipping, processing, or storing.
